Joni Mitchell - TROUBLE CHILD (Court and Spark)

Up in a sterilized room
Where they let you be lazy
Knowing your attitude's all wrong
And you got to change
And that's not easy
Dragon shining with all values known
Dazzling you-keeping you from your own
Where is the lion in you to defy him
When you're this weak
And this spacey...

So what are you going to do about it
You can't live life and you can't leave it
Advice and religion-you can't take it
You can't seem to believe it
The peacock is afraid to parade
You're under the thumb of the maid
You really can't give love in this condition
Still you know how you need it

They open and close you
Then they talk like they know you
They don't know you
They're friends and they're foes too
Trouble child
Breaking like the waves at Malibu

So why does it come as such a shock
To know you really have no one
Only a river of changing faces
Looking for an ocean
They trickle through your leaky plans
Another dream over the dam
And you're lying in some room
Feeling like your right to be human
Is going over too
Well some are going to knock you
And some'll try to clock you
You know it's really hard
To talk sense to you
Trouble child
Breaking like the waves at Malibu

Joni Mitchell-Trouble Child (03:54)
When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female
recording artist of the late 20th century. Uncompromising and iconoclastic, Mitchell confounded
expectations at every turn; restlessly innovative, her music evolved from deeply personal folk
stylings into pop, jazz, avant-garde, and even world music, presaging the multicultural
experimentation of the 1980s and 1990s by over a decade. Fiercely independent, her work steadfastly
resisted the whims of ...

I agree: I firmly believe that Joni is the greatest female songwriter in the history of American music. Talk about an utter genius. I have every album she's ever done, and love everything she's done. A real treasure.

I feel like Joni's music is so deep and textured and multi-faceted. Listening to it and appreciating it is not a casual affair. There is a depth and meaning and feeling in every word, every note, every chord, every arrangement. It is all so deliberate and unique. I can't imagine the amount of time and effort she must have put into her work through the years. But of course, she makes it look easy. Thanks for the post and the wonderful pictures also.

My top 5! My sister brought home her album, I was like 14. Unbelievably resurrecting! I listened to this album this past weekend and I couldn't stop crying, it was so healing. We used to know all the words to all the songs of Joni's. She has a way of telling life's stories and she is a genius with the music and so entertaining. This is such a joy to be a part of her music and watching the pictures. I wish I could have seen her in concert. Love you JONI!
